Rain Totals in More Detail
A major limitation of the dashboard environment made available by the manufacturer to create these charts is that accumulated rain can not be shown for the present period (hour, day, month or year), only for past completed periods. So, for example, today's rain total can not be shown until after midnight, when the day is complete and becomes yesterday. The dashboard below contains multiple rain period graphs in an attempt to let you see rain history in more detail.
Here are some pointers:
- "Hourly" means top of the hour until end of the hour.
- "Daily" means midnight to midnight (not the last 24 hours).
- "Weekly" means Monday through Sunday (not the last 7 days).
- "Monthly" means first day of month through last day of month.
- You can hover your pointer over or near a bar or period to have its value pop up.
- To better see Hourly trends, begin by clicking on the "Date Range" box (at upper left corner of dashboard) and set it to something like Last 2 Days. To get an idea of the rain total for the present day so far, you can add up the bars from midnight on, and only be missing the present hour.
- To better see Daily trends, set the Date Range to something like Last 2 Weeks.
- To better see Weekly and Monthly trends, set the Date Range to something like Last 6 (or 12) Months.
Note that these are "rain" amounts, not "precipitation."
In times of snow and ice, readings will be delayed timewise as the fallen snow or ice gradually melts and passes through the measuring instrument to measure the equivalent rain amount. Also, the amount will likely be reduced by some snow being blown away by wind or evaporating in sunlight before it has a chance to melt and be measured.
